Get to know me

Hello! My name is Reyna and I am so excited that you are reading this. It's so important to make sure that I am a good fit for you. I believe that the relationship you have with your therapist is by far the most important part of therapy.
I have lived in the western slope of Colorado my entire life. I lived in Grand Junction and obtained my bachelors degree in music at our own Colorado Mesa University. I worked as a music teacher at a local high school for 5 years where I earned an award for Teacher of the year. I decided to leave teaching when I realized that the teens and young adults of western Colorado were not getting the support they needed.
I saw great need for counselors here in the rural areas of Colorado for teens, young adults, and adults, so I decided to get my masters degree in counseling to help the people of this community. I completed my counseling degree online through Adams State University which is well known for the quality of its counselor training program. I completed my internship working with teens in a school based therapy program here in Montrsose, CO. Now I am proud to serve the people of the western slope through my work in private practice.

My Style of Therapy

Entering therapy can come with all kinds of different emotions. From the moment you enter my office, I strive to make the relationship between you as the client and me as the therapist. Though our relationship is a professional one, I want to establish an environment of warmth, trust, and unconditional positive regard. This means meeting you where you are and not forcing a particular form of therapy on you. I do use a few well researched methods to help drive results and tailor treatment to you. I use skills from Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) as well as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I also do couples counseling using methods from Gottman couples counseling to foster improved communication and help you experience more meaningful connections in your relationships.
